If your hair starts to thin or you start losing hair it can be upsetting and embarrassing.  But don’t panic – see our top tips:

·         Remember it’s normal to lose between 50 and 100 hairs a day

·         More than that could be the result of ill health, medication or simply getting older

·         Talk to your hairdresser about hair styles to help disguise the problem

·         Almost half of women experience hair loss during pregnancy – it’s the hormones! But don’t worry, after a few months, your hair will usually return to normal

·         If your hair loss is sudden, see your doctor

·         Make sure you wash and condition your hair often

·         Use warm not hot water

·         Eat a balanced and nutritious diet

·         If you are experiencing hair loss stay away from chemical processes like relaxing, colouring and perming

·         Treat your hair gently – don’t yank it back into a severe ponytail and brush it carefully. Detangle with your fingers first.

·         The British journal of Dermatology reports that if you plait or braid your hair too tightly you may be at risk of permanent hair loss. They also suggest that hair extensions can also damage your hair over time

·         Use a specially formulated shampoo and conditioner like Nioxin

 ·         Different products often work for different people so don’t be afraid to try something new

·         Always comb out your hair with a wide toothed comb when it is wet and try to avoid pulling and tugging

·         Use the warm not hot setting on your hair dryer

·         Use heated straighteners sparingly
